“Catch the Reading Bug!"

Join "Catch the Reading Bug!" this summer at the Fairlee Public Library and discover the amazing world of insects and other "buggy" creatures. The 2008 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, ages 3 through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, craft activities, and more. Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Wednesday, June 18 and the program will end on Saturday, August 16. Each participant will receive a log book to record the titles of books you read this summer. A sticker will be added to the reading record for each 5 books read. After the program ends, each child who participated, by reading at least one book and returning their reading record to the library by the “End-of-the-Summer" Party on August 16, will receive a certificate signed by librarian Debra Edmands and will be eligible for prizes.

The books read may be on any subject, but for added interest there will be books available to support the “Buggy” theme of anything and everything to do with insects and other similar creatures. Handouts for the program are provided by the Vermont Department of Libraries through the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

As usual, there will be a weekly puzzle contest sheet available at the library, with a drawing each Saturday for a free ice cream cone prize.

Keeping the reading habit alive over the summer is important, because children who read during the summer have a better chance of maintaining their reading skills! So, be sure to stop in at the library, on the corner of Main and School Street, to register for “Catch the Reading Bug!”, and watch for further announcements of other programs and activities.
